At the gates between worlds, Seoul

Royal palaces¬†of the Joseon dynasty¬†. Seoul. The city where history walks down the street, dressed up in traditional costumes. The place where, when passing through the three gates of each palace, you feel like travelling through time and arriving in a place filled with captivating legends about historic battles or painful, impossible love stories. Seoul has many places like this, both traditional villages that offer you the opportunity to stroll along the narrow and cobbled streets admiring the old houses and palaces, full of color and emotion, where at every moment you feel the excitement of history. In these places, many tourists, as well as locals, prefer to dress in traditional costumes and trully live their experience. Today I’m going to talk about two famous palaces in Seoul, or even better I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves: Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace. A different world: Bongeunsa Temple, Seoul

My story today takes place in Seoul. More precisely in Gangnam, but I will not talk about the luxury shops or the famous restaurants of the area, but about a totally different place: the Bongeunsa Temple. This is one of the most beautiful places in Seoul, hiding a history of more than 1000 years. From the moment I entered the courtyard of the temple, I heard a fascinating traditional music and quickly went to the place where the sound came from. There, beside a huge statue that seemed to watch over the whole city, I watched a dance show performed by a lovely girl dressed in the traditional hanbok costume. I continued walking on an alley full of white lanterns marked with hope messages of those visiting the temple. The alley led me to the main temple where I felt I had entered another world. The sky was made up of white lanterns or different colors, in different areas, hundreds of messages hanging overhead, rising to the sky. The monk’s voice was heard from the …
